Course Name:    Understanding ACEs PCEs and the Benefits of RITE (Mandatory Only)
Course Description:    The goal of this two-day workshop is to provide law enforcement and corrections professionals with a better understanding of the impact of significant factors on individuals served in our community. These factors include Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), chronic and toxic stress, and the benefits of Positive Childhood Experiences (PCEs) to understand your role to help build a trauma-informed, resilient community while serving individuals affected by these factors. The knowledge of the intergenerational transmission of adversity from parent to child validates the urgency to gain a rich understanding of the science behind toxic stress and engagement across sectors, especially in law enforcement and corrections, and to work toward prevention and equity in our communities. The workshop will also provide attendees with Racial Intelligence Training and Engagement (R.I.T.E). Instructors will share information on Emotional Intelligence and the need for “Accountability Partners” in law enforcement and corrections. Mandatory Only means that this course is not eligible for salary incentive credit. Contact: Brenda Townsend, btownsend@valenciacollege.edu.
